PHUKET
Phuket
is the only island which enjoys provincial status, located at
Southern Thailand. It is one of the largest island in the country and
another smaller 32 islands – lies off the west coast is the
Andaman Sea. In the past, the island was one of the major trading
routes between India and China, and formerly derived its wealth from
tin and rubber and now from tourism.
Attractions
include - handicraft centre, orchid garden, international class golf
courses, villages crocodile farm, monument and temples. There are –
Gypsy Village, wildlife parks, national museum and monastery of the
Golden Buddha, pearl farm and a marine biological research centre.
JAMES BOND ISLAND |
The
best thing I like about Phuket is none other than its stretch of
white powdery beaches, magnificent shore and bay, sparkling dotted
seas and sumptuous seafood restaurant, here.
Many
'whites' came here, mainly for sunbathing in naked along Patong Beach.
The
other most 'happening' event is the nightlife – karaoke, pubs, gay
pubs, tiger show, sexy show, pondan show and nightclubs are
mushrooming in the town centre or Patong Beach – where the men and
women openly grabbed the customers hand and usher them into their
destination. I have never seen such open soliciting of customers –
in the world.
POSING WITH SIMON CABARET ENTERTAINERS |
Of
course, I must not missed out the Pondan Show at Simon Cabaret –
whereby tourists can pose with the pondan for some tips. I can say
the show is damn classy and professional in nature.
Another
must visit place is the Phang Nga Bay,
located about 660-metre drive across the Sarasin Bridge from the mainland to the
island. A day out here is definitely a worth while trip – to see
the limestone cliff, emerald green waters and rocky caves along the sea. The island is home to sheltered fauna. One must take
photograph with the impressive James Bond Island which is a popular spot in this bay apart from Koh Panyee.
Another
recommended island is the Phi Phi Island which is called Thailand's
superstar island for the famous role in 2000 movie The Beach.
Unfortunately, due to time constrain, I did not make it to Phi Phi
Island – hopefully my next trip to Phuket.
