EXETER

HISTORIC EXETER, DEVON

For the first time, I traveled three hours train ride from England to meet my cousin De Ne Bone living in Exeter, Devon in 2011.

She was delighted to see us as she fetched us from the train station. This was my first visit to Devon, and subsequently visit a second visit in 2015. I stayed for five days visited Exeter City as well as nearby places like Torquay and Sidmouth.

EXTER - OLDEST CITY
Exeter is named as one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in England, with many historic buildings and churches, found here.

Visitor can get free city map titled “Exeter's Red Coat Guided Tour” or sign up with a guided tour, to explore this historic city.

EXETER CATHEDRAL

Firstly, is Exeter's Catheral is one of the oldest and most beautiful church in England, which exists for more than 1000 years ago. Historic features – world's largest Gothic vault, medieval Romanesque towers, historic astronomical clock, medieval paintings & carvings, 1665 organ case, unique Minstrels' gallery, 14th century glass and Anglo-Saxon boo of poetry. Visitor my opt for a 60-minute guided tour around the church to view the beautiful vaulted ceiling, stunning stained glass and intricate stone carvings. 

EXETER WALL

Next, walk around the Exeter's City Wall, originally built by Romans in 200 AD, whereby 70% of city wall still in its original workmanship. 

PRINCESSHAY SHOPPING AREA
 Other recommended visit – Quayside (historic houses), Custom House, Guildhall (Tuckers Hall), Princesshay (shopping) and historic buildings (ghosts & Legends), West Quarter, Exe Island and the Shihay (Industrial Heritage), Castle Gatehouse, Royal Clarence Hotel, Topsham Museum, and St Nicholas Priory (Tudor Home).

Full tour – recommended two days sufficient to discover full of Exeter.
