ANDOVER

ANDOVER

We (family) have a chance to pass by the little town of Andover, on our way to Stonehenge and Bath.

Without hesitation, I asked my brother to stop over for a second at Andover, for a photograph session.

Of course, I did not get an opportunity to know the town well, nor visit any of its tourist places.

Hopefully, one fine day I will be able to make a return to visit Andover thoroughly, with guided maps.

ANDOVER

Andover is a town in the English county of Hampshire, The town is on the River Anton, a major source of the Test, 29km west of the town of Basingstoke, both major rail stops.

Andover is twinned with the towns of Redon in France, Goch in Germany and Andover, Massachusetts in the United States.

Its name is recorded in Old English in 955 as Andeferas, and is though to be of Celtic origin.

Andover's first mention in history in 950 when King Edred is recorded as having built a royal hunting lodge there. In 962, King Edgar called a meeting of the Saxon 'Parliament' at his hunting lodge near Andover.
