JURASSIC
EXMOUTH
Exmouth
is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, in England. This is the second
jurassic coast I have visited in 2015, the first one was in 2010.
Exmouth
town is about 30 minutes bus ride from Exeter. One can also cycle to
Exmouth or go by train.
Exmouth
marks the western gateway of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the
Jurassic Coast. It has two miles of glorious beaches and a promenade
filled with traditional attractions.
JURASSIC COAST |
Exmouth
developed as a resort in Georgian times and was once probably the
most select seaside resort in Britain. It is home to famous people as
Lady Nelson and Lady Byran.
Nowadays,
it offers a rich mixture of immaculate sands, lovely gardens, a busy
marina and a range of sports facilities, that combine to make it an
excellent resort for all ages.
To
the south, the resort overlooks Lyme Bay, while to the West it looks
across the estuary of the River Exe to the Haldon Hills and Dawlish
Warren. There are boat trips and also lots to do on dry land with
shops, a museum, old pubs and good walk along the beach.
The
bus will stop at the town centre which is full of elegant Georgian
architecture, souvenir shops and bustling cafe. The Strand is
Exmouth's Cafe Quarter with a range of restaurants, coffee shops and
bars. There will also art shops, fishmongers, and watch out for the
regular farmers' market, here.
Opposite
the shops – is the WWI In Remembrance Stone stood prominently,
here.

Shopping
is also plentiful here, where the Magnolia Centre and Parade mix well
known High Street brands with local independent stores including
butchers, greengrocers and bakers. Then there is Exeter Road and
Albion Street – offering a huge range of independent traders
selling everything you can think of. Also, do drop by to visit the
award wining Exmouth Indoor Market comprises of 50 stalls all under
one roof.
Further
your walk the coastal site where one can see the Flag Pole Memorial
WWII and a clock tower. The WW II Flagpole Memorial (20-8-1995) was to mark the 50th Anniversary of the end of WW II by offering thanksgiving for all (men, women, child) from all nations who suffered and make sacrifices. In addition, WW II is also commemorate the 60th of Reign of Queen Victoria (1897).
CLOCK TOWER |
Nearby,
is the Manor Garden – rich of flowers, plants and trees.
The
“must visit” place is of course the Exmouth Seafront – where
the jurassic coast is – a world heritage site famous for its
geology of Triassic, Jurassic and cretaceous strata, stretching from
here to Studland Bay near Poole. Stroll down the beach and watch
seagulls flying over your head.
