BRIGHTON
– PLEASURE DOME OF BRITAIN
It
certainly is “bright” when I arrived at Brighton via the MRT from
Staines, at 11am.
Everything
seems so bright – the seafront, amusements and the shopping arcade.
I
keep on hoping the 'brightness' will persists until a heavy rain
enveloped Brighton.
Thus,
I have no choice but to stay indoor most of the time – when I
visited this seaside resort.
BRIGHTON TOWN |
Indeed,
Brighton is dubbed as the 'most enchanting seaside city' in the
country. It is located on the south coast of England that is part of
the city of Brighton and Hove, in the county of Sussex.
It
is regarded as the pleasure dome due to its cosmopolitan air,
abundance restaurants, amusements and famous pier along it's seafront
promenade.
It
has a total of about 250 restaurants, and also independent
coffeehouses.
HI! BRIGHTON |
Take
a peep into the Royal Pavilion to see the Toy and Model Museum
featuring thousands of items spanning the generation in Britain.
Other
attractions include – Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Brighton
Pier, SEAS LIFE Brighton, West Pier and 1360 Tower.
Brighton's
town importance grew in the Middle Ages as the Old Town developed,
but is is languished in the early modern period, affected by foreign
attacks, storms, a suffering economy and a declining population.
SEA SIDE |
However,
in the Georgian era, Brighton developed as a fashionable seaside
resort, encouraged by the patronage of the Prince Regent (King George
IV), who spent much time in the town and constructed the Pavilion in
the Regency era.
Brighton
continued to grow as a major centre of tourism flowing arrival of the
railways in 1841, becoming a popular destination for day-trippers
from London. Many of the major attractions were built in the
Victorian era, including the Metropolitan Hotel (now Hilton), Grand
Hotel, the West Pier and the Brighton Palace Pier.
CUTE BRIGHTON!! |
Today,
Brighton's location has made it a popular destination for tourists,
renowned for its diverse communities, quirky shopping areas, large
cultural music and arts scene, and its LGBT population, leading to
its recognition as the “unofficial gay capital of the UK”.
Surprisingly,
Brighton is called the most popular seaside destination in the UK for
overseas tourists.
It
has also been called the UK's “hippiest city” and the “happiest
place to live in UK”.
