CAMDEN MARKET & PORTOBELLO MARKET

CAMDEN MARKET & PORTOBELLO MKT

The Camden markets are a number of adjoining large retail markets often referred to as “Camden Market” or “Camden Lock”, located in the historic former Pickfords stables, in Camden Town north of the Hampstead Road Lock of the Regent's canal.

It is famous for their cosmopolitan image, products sold on the stalls include crafts, clothing, bric-a-brac and fast food.

It is the fourth-most popular visitor attraction in London, attracting some 250,000 people each week.

COSMOPOLITAN CAMDEN MARKET

A small local foodstuffs market has operated in Inverness Street in Camden Town since the beginning of the 20th century. From 1974, a small weekly crafts market that operated every Sunday near Camden Lock, eventually developed into a large complex of markets.

In 2014, Israeli billionaire Teddy Sagi started buying property in the Camden Market area. By March 2015, having purchased four most important of the six sections of the market, he announced plants to invest 300 million pound in developing the market area by 2018.

I have visited the Camden Market for two times – in 2007 and 2015. I was amazed with the stuffs that are sold here, things which probably cannot get elsewhere in the world, can be found here. One of the outstanding item I had bought for my brother Gary, is a marijuana designed cigarette box.

Another smaller version of Camden Market, is none other than Portobello Market. Portobello Road is a street in the Notting Hill district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in west London. It runs almost the length of Notting Hill from south to north, roughly parallel with Ladbroke Grove.

On Saturdays, it is home to Portobello Market, one of London's notable street markets, known for its second-hand clothes and antiques. Come August since 1966, the Portobello Film Festival has been held in locations around Portobello Road.

I have been to Portobello Market way before Camden Market in 2003, and subsequently in 2007.
