IPOH: For the first time, a mural art showcasing the Tambun Pomelo was unveiled at Jalan Ampang-Tambun, here.
There are two such mural art painting comprising of one huge wall mural art and another mural art located along the road side.
The mural art painting measures about 50 metre long was created by Ipoh City Council (MBI).
Guest-of-honour Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud launched the mural art today (April 11).
Rumaizi said the objective of the mural art aimed to promote the Pomelo fruit as an icon of Tambun as well as to beautify the township.
“The pomelo industry has been in existence about 80 years ago and the pomelo orchard is a tourist attraction for visitors, here.
“The orchard here produced one of the best pomelo in the country which comes with a selection of sweet or sour taste.
MBI Councillor Zone 1 Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman said that before Movement Control Order (MCO), there were 3,000 tourists per month visiting the pomelo farms mainly from Singapore and Japan.
“Unfortunately, the number of tourists drop during MCO period by 45% and slowly the tourists are coming back again,” he said adding that the council plan to add in more mural art in future.
