IS THERE AN EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN IPOH??

Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was reported 59km northeast of Ipoh at 9.38pm on May 26, reported by India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) posted by Earthquake Monitor.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Ipoh, Gua Musang, Simpang Empat, Began Serai, Tapah Road and Kulim.

This phenomenon was denied by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) of any earthquake happening in the country. The occurrence of earthquake was at North Sumatera in Indonesia on same date and time.

Tracing back to Malaysia’s earthquake history. Malaysia was affected by the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004. The tsunami was real but the earthquake was fake. Tsunami was observed in Penang, Kedah and Ipoh.

At that time, there were only two staff (including me) working on the tsunami story in Perak. I was in charged of the mass contribution of donations to tsunami victims by medical organisation.
