IPOH: The first day of the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Ipoh is a mixture of MCO1, MCO2 and MCO3.
Ipoh folks have gone through all the four-type of movement control order – MCO, CMCO, RMCO and EMCO.
A drive around Ipoh city, one will find more essential shops open compared to MCO1. The shops that remain open are selling food, fruits and vegetables, sundries, pharmacy and car repair (tyre).
There are also essential businesses where they choose to close such as clinic and dentist.
Some hotels choose to close because the management interpreted the word ‘essential’ does not include hotel services.
Obviously, the scenario for EMCO is almost carrying the same ‘quietness’ as MCO1 except more essential businesses are now open. Unfortunately, there is few or literally no customers.
A popular tourism spot the Concubine Lane in Old Town reflects a ‘ghost town’, there is no customers sourcing for food although only two coffee shops are open that Khong Heng and House of Mirror.
There is no more crowd or line up in hypermarket such as Tesco compared to MCO1. Or they have done with their shopping before EMCO.
OLD TOWN |
The word EMCO is supposed to be a stricter movement control however the government have redefined adding into new terminology such as “essentials”, and kindergarten is considered one of the essential items as well as lawyer office.
Talking about roadblocks – I have yet noticed any roadblocks or patrolling of police cars. Perhaps, the number of roadblocks have reduced during EMCO period compared to MCO1.
