1ST LRT COLLISION IN MALAYSIA

 

Malaysia sees its first LRT collision involving two trains on the Kelana Jaya Rail Transit (LRT) line since it starts operation 23 years ago.

 It occurred between Kampung Baru and KLCC stations at 9.30pm yesterday (May 24)

The collision happened between an empty carriage that was on a test-run and one passenger train. One carriage was travelling at 20km/h when the collision happened and this caused a significant jolt that threw some passengers out of their seat and sustained injury. A total of 213 victims was involved, with 47 suffer serious injuries and 166 light injuries.

 


 

There were incidents of past MRT accidents happened on August 5, 1993, a front-to-back collision between two trains at the Clementi Station resulted to 156 injured commuters, in Singapore. The second one involved Joo Koon Rail accident happened on Nov 15, 2017, when a C151A train travelling at 16 km per hour rear-ended a stationary C151A train at Joo Koon Station on the East West MRT line resulting in 38 injuries, in Singapore.
