KUALA KANGSAR: A Thailand nationality was sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court for stealing forest produce at the Royal Belum Reserve Forest, Daerah Hulu Perak at 5am, on May 13.
Alik, 31, admitted guilt before Judge Rohaida Ishak.
He was charged under S84(1) Enakmen Akta Perhutanan Negara 1984 (Pemakaian) 1985 (National Forestry Act) which carries a penalty of RM50,000 or five years jail term or both.
Earlier on, the defendant was charged for destroying part of the forest and found in his possession 3.55 kg of gaharu woods, one axe, one parang and eight units of chisel by the Operasi Bersepadu Khazanah. All the materials will be kept at Perak Forestry Department.
