FIRST ROBOT LAUNCHES IN IPOH MARKET

 

IPOH: The Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Ministry of Housing & Local Government (KPKT) and the Ipoh City Council (MBI) joint hands in launching the first-ever artificial intelligent robot (AI) held at the Amanjaya Chicken Market (Pasar Ayam Amanjaya), here.

The pilot project, is a joint venture project undertaken by MOSTI, KPKT and MBI applicable to robotic and AI at work in the public market areas.

Guests of honour were Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Khairy Jamaluddin and Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Also presence was Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.

Khairy said the usage of robot via low touch, high tech was a good method to minimize physical and face to face interaction between humans while assisting industry sectors to continue operation in a safe manner as well as improving the economy.

 

HAVING A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ROBOT

 

“In addition, by using the robots is also in line with adapting to the new normal way of life due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. 

“The robots feature Perak identity namely Badang Manjoi, Badang Tambun and Badang Gopeng.

“The robots have been stationed at the market since last November, to carry out functions such as cleaning the floor, transporting chicken from lorry to the market stall and collecting and throwing away rubbish.

“The objectives of using the robot are to reduce employment of foreign workers where some of the tasks can now be done by the robot.

 

STARTING OFF THE ROBOT

 

“The project is currently funded by grant via Sandbox Inovasi and Technologi Kebangsaan (NTIS) under MOSTI’s Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) initiative,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zuraida said the criteria of selecting the market place for the robot was based on the conducive environment and a spacious area for the robot to move around.

Later, the guests were led to a detour of the market place and to view the working of the robots located at the Chicken Market.
