IPOH: The Masoorat Hill site urban farming is the first ‘Pilot Survey’ undertaken by Ipoh City Council (MBI) using the hydroponic and fertigation technology, here.
The project involved Perak Agriculture & Development Corporation (PPPNP) in collaboration with Green Valley Agriculture (Hydroponic & Fertigation) and Rymba Management & Leisure Sdn Bhd (Rock Climbing).
Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud made a visit to the Masoorat Hill site, to view the progress of the project.
Rumaizi said the idea of urban farming was initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic period, due to the decreased in import and export of raw materials and food product.
“At the moment, there are 650 pots of chilli planted within 7,000 square feet utilizing a cost of RM60,000 for construction,” he said.
He added that the Masoorat Hill which is located at the Kinta Valley was recommended for eco-tourism and an attractive hilly site for tourists in Ipoh.
“Currently, the council is engaging professionals in caving to study the historical cave and it is believed that saber tooth tiger fossil as well as graffiti are found, here.
“The council’s intention is to preserve the heritage of the cave structure rich with stalagmite and stalactite, and is declared to be the 19th Geo-site within Kinta Valley Geopark,” he said.
