MB INC. PERAK TREE PLANTING PROJECT A SUCCESS

IPOH: The Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc. Perak) had successfully planted 75,000 plants via the ‘Tree Planting’ campaign, from last November until September, here.

MB Inc. chief executive officer Anuar Zainal Abidin said that the campaign was in line with the Perak state government initiatives under the ‘Perak Bumi Lestari’ campaign, to plant more trees run by MB Inc. Perak.

“Initially, MB Inc. Perak aims to plant 45,000 trees before January 31, 2021, a mandate provided by the state government.

“However, the corporation is able to achieve 67% above the original target of 45,000 trees.

“There are 50 agencies involved in the tree planting project including Environmental NGO, schools, universities, mosque, local community, Quarry Association and Orang Asli Village (KOA), with the objective of maintaining a green environment.

“Originally, we have utilized RM1 million for planting the 75,000 trees in the state while the maintenance fees will be taken from the allocated 20% of funds we may receive from the returns of the project.

“We have planted forest trees (60%) and fruit trees (40%) around the state, where we have also planted 2,000 trees in Ipoh City alone.

“The trees that planted are Bakau, Berembang and Ketapang while fruit trees are rambutan, jackfruit, cempedak and soursops among others.

“In addition, 9,620 coffee trees are planted at KOA Kg Air Bah, Asu Hulu Perak Village and Kerawat Village where we encouraged the Orang Asli to get involved in the tree planting project as it is a source of income for the locals, here.

“The green campaign is also an initiative reported in the speech of Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah during the Perak State Landscape Day on March 3, 2020, to plant 100,000 trees in the state,” he said.
