IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) performed a tree planting ceremony titled “Perak Sustainable Earth” (Perak Bumi Lestari) in line with making Ipoh City to become a Low Carbon City by 2030.

The tree planting ceremony was also in conjunction with World Landscape Architecture Month.

The event was a joint venture of MBI, National Landscape Department (JLN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) held at Dr Seenivasagam Park.

The event saw ten trees planted in Dr Seenivasagam Park such as Merbau, Cabang Cabang, Bebuas and Rozel species.

Currently, there are 400 trees and 30 species of plants surrounded the park areas.

Rumaizi said the council was in collaboration with JLN, UPM and ILAM to produce a “rewilding Ipoh – the landscape architecture perspective” report, and the programme was in line with the Perak Menteri Besar’s Perak Sustainable Earth campaign.

“The report will include a documentation of the landscape in Ipoh Old Town and Kinta River where the collected survey results and ideas will be utilized by MBI in achieving Low Carbon City concept.

ONE FOR THE ALBUM

“The initial objective of the campaign aims to achieve the 100,000 trees targeted for in Ipoh City by 2030, which will be planted at the recreational park, main roads/protocol and spacious areas.

“Besides, the planting tree also assists in turning Ipoh City into a Low Carbon City whereby the planted trees are projected to reduce average temperature by 25 degrees Celsius in Ipoh City.

“The council is making sure the developers or businessman adhere to the rules of planting more trees either on landed or strata title properties.

“Other than planting trees, the council also uses LED lights and solar panel in street lightings, is another way to reduce the temperature of the City," he said.
