ORANG ASLI RECEPTION NITE

 

IPOH: A group of Orang Asli were feted to a sumptuous dinner themed "Friendly Reception Nite" organized by the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) held at MH Hotel, here.

Guest-of-honour was Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Saarani Mohamad.

The night started off with an Orang Asli traditional dance followed with presentation of awards to Perak Most Dynamic Batin and Best Charismatic Student (Orang Asli) and replica cheque presentation ceremony.

Saarani said the annual event aimed to foster relationship between government official and the Orang Asli, as well as to exchange ideas with one another.

“There are plans to build more hostel to enable the Orang Asli children to stay put in the school ground to pursue their education.

“Children from the Orang Asli background tend to stop studying at an early age due to discouragement from parents and rampant child marriage.

“The state government is also arranging mobile vaccination method via manual registration where the medical team will enter the Orang Asli village and provide vaccination to the people.

Meanwhile, JAKOA Malaysia chief director Prof. Dr. Juli Edo thanked the state government for consistent financial aid given to the Orang Asli community in Perak.

“The Orang Asli community required RM500,000 for educational aid and RM1 million to upgrade the lifestyle of the Orang Asli, infrastructure and to conduct youth programme within the community.
