IPOH: Gua Matsoorat located at the Kinta Valley Geopark areas near Gunung Lang has been suspected of facing vandalism when fossil teeth were found damaged, here.
It was earlier reported by some media organization, that a video production crew had entered the cave for shooting. Checks on the incident found that filming occurred outside the cave.
The damage to the teeth and partial jawbone were found damaged on March 18 (Thursday) at 12.30pm - reported by Perak Natural Heritage Geopark Tour Guides Association chairman Mohd Fadly Md Noor.
However, State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi told reporters after the launching of the PERAKMANart Trail that originally there were two security guards taking care of the cave day/night time.
“We may add in more security guards as the cave areas are too huge to monitor.
“The State Government and the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation together with Ipoh City Council will look into it and take appropriate steps to stop vandalism and preserve the fossil in the cave.
“We will continue to find out who is the culprit or whether the damage was an intentional act by humans or accidental by external forces,” she said adding that the damage looks more like vandalism.
