IPOH: The first Smart City Execution Plan was launched by Ipoh City Council with the support of Ministry of Housing & Local Governtment (KPKT) via PLANMalaysia held at Kinta River Front Hotel, here.
Guest-of-honour was Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Saraani Mohamad.
Also present were – State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Norlee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi @ Md Daud.
The event started off with a signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) session with Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) for Ipoh Smart City Prosperous Survey Task, TNB for fixing solar roof panel at UTC Perak, and Sunway Group for upgrading part of the road in Tambun.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Datuk Saraani Mohamad.
Also present for the execution of the MOU were - Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan representing TNB, Dr Anas Md Yusof (USAS) and Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah (Sunway).
Saarani said Ipoh City emerged as the fourth city in Malaysia to be recognized as Smart City via the assistance provided by USAS, TNB and Sunway Group, to be ready by 2030.
“The objective of transforming Ipoh into a Smart City involves the development of industrial revolution 4.0 (4IR) such as Internet of Thing, Big Data, Sensor, Artificial Intelligence, Geographical information system (GIS) and robatic which are the elements to change the current city into Smart City.
“Under the Smart City Execution Planner 2020-2030 there will be an action plan from the aspect of planning and accomplishment of smart city, coordination between agencies and the parties involved in smart city – focusing on the seven domains including Smart Living, Smart Environment, Smart Governance, Smart People, Smart Digital Infrastructure, Smart Economy and Smart Mobility as a solution to 24 challenges/potential recognized by Ipoh City.
“The Execution Plan will involve 37 projects covering four phases over a period of ten years namely quick win project, short term project, medium term project and long-term project.
“Telekom Malaysia ™ and the State Government will assist in increasing the speed of internet from 100 MB to 1GB via the UNIFI Fiber Optic Project which was initiated in stages from 2019 to 2020 and 2021.
“Lastly, the council will also assist in transforming Ipoh City into a ‘Low Carbon City’ by 2030,” he said.
Meanwhile, Datuk Rumaizi said the council would be the first in Perak State to work with TNB and GZPARX Sdn Bhd to initiate the Solar Energy Purchasing programme by putting up panel solar fotovoltaics (PV) at UTC Perak, which would save-up to RM2.5 million for MBI over the 21-year Supply Agreement of Renewable Energy.
Founder of Sunway Group Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah said the Sunway Group would assist in expanding the road in Tambun, and building a direct road from Pantai Hospital Ipoh to Sunway township.
