GOPENG: R4 Perak Slalom Carnival X Kampar River Fest 2021 is the first tourism event kick-start in Perak state, held at Murni Camp, Kg Jahang Gopeng, here.
The River Fest took place at the Kinta Valley Geopark area, a potential tourism hub for organising extreme sports offering elements of uniqueness, beauty and natural environment.
The event was jointly organized by the state government, Tourism Perak, Malaysia Rafting Association and Radak Management.
There were seven teams – four person per team participated in the river rafting competition, at Kampar River Gopeng.
Guest-of-honour was State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Norlee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi launched the event.
Norlee encouraged tourism players in the District of Kampar to focuss on the benefits of the Kinta Valley Geopark (Second Geopark In Malaysia) while organising events at the Geopark areas namely Gua Tempurung, Gua Kandu and Kampar River, Jeram.
“They can also organize activities such as extreme sports, cave exploration and rock climbing here.
“Apart from activities, tourism players can promote tourism products found in Gopeng/Kampar mainly Homestay Gopeng and traditional food.
She said that be it geotourism or ecotourism, we must take care of the cleanliness, safety while protecting natural environment around us, when we organize activities in the Geopark areas.
“Kampar River is a popular destination to host water event, either national or international level as witnessed by the previous Kampar River Festival 2019.
“As we know, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a negative impact on the tourism industry and business owners” she said adding that she would support tourism players in promoting their products in the state.
