PERAK STANDS SECOND BEST TRAVEL DESTINATION AMONG LOCALS

IPOH: Perak is the second travel destination with the highest domestic tourists in the country for the year 2020.

The state is among the three states in the country that has the highest local tourist’s arrival since 2015.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted the tourism industry in the state since the implementation of MCO on March 18, last year.

The Domestic Tourism Survey Report for the year 2020, reported a drop of 44.9% or 107.4 million domestic tourists from a total 239.1 million tourists for the year 2019 to 131.7 million in 2020.

Even though, Perak is the second highest in receiving local tourists in 2020 that is 13.17 million tourists after Selangor, if compared to year 2019 Perak stands fourth placing with a higher total of 21.0 million domestic tourists. Overall, there is a drop of 37.5% or 7.89 million of domestic tourists.

Out of the total, 4.89 million domestic tourists stay overnight, and Perak stands second highest in terms of overnight stay, after Pahang. There is still a drop of 51.7% or 5.23 million tourists (stay overnight) in 2020 compared to 10.1 million tourists in 2019.

An estimated of RM3.8 billion revenue received in 2020, from the tourism industry in the state.

 

DATUK NOLEE ASHILIN SAID PERAK STANDS SECOND BEST TRAVEL DESTINATION IN THE COUNTRY

 

State Tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said that according to the survey, Perak State was still the tourists’ choice for domestic travel destination during the pandemic period.

“The state government is Initiating strategies with the tourism industry players to vaccine all tourism staff, by September.

“The government also plans to carry out activities to enlighten the tourism industry including relaunching tourism voucher #TravelPerakLah, while introducing two new category vouchers for 78 Spa & Wellness businesses and 35 travel agencies registered with Umrah, Haji and Ziarah Negeri Perak Association (PUHAZ).

“Promotional activities will be posted via social media Tourism Perak such as FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter.

“There will also be launching of Business Matching, Webinar and Engagement Session via online for International Travel Virtual Networking with PATA Malaysia Chapter, Business Matching MITA and Tourism Perak, Virtual Tourism Expo, Rindu Malaysia Webinar Series ‘WOW PERAK’, Millennial, Sports & Adventure Hybrid Seminar and #TravelPerakLah engagement session,” she said.

She added that physical activities were expected to start off in November 2021 provided the pandemic situation improves with activities namely Ipoh Music Symposium 2021, The Taste of Perak 2021, Pangkor Endurance and Count Down to New Year (Perak State Level).
