FLASH FLOOD WOES IN IPOH

 

IPOH: “The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is in the process of selecting an accredited consultant to investigate areas of flash flood located in Bercham Industry Area, Kampung Sg Rokam and RPT Sri Klebang/Desa Sri Chepor, which covers an area of 10.2 per sq km,” said Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud during a full board meeting, here.

“The consultant will look into the locations with serious flash flood issues, collect data before they start off upgrading the drainage system, by early 2021.

“The upgrading work will cover existing housing area, roadside, main drain, water catchment and flood pump structure.

Rumaizi added that the Perak State Government has recently engaged MajuPerak Utilities Management Sendirian Berhad (MUMSB) to be responsible for collection of domestic rubbish around Meru Zone, which will benefit 10,649 premises.

“The pilot project, will focus on five initiatives including usage of new asset of international standard to provide rubbish bin to residents in Meru; data observation using drone technology and Geographical Information System (GIS); utilizing Revolution Industry 4.0 plus comprehensive consumer-friendly monitoring facility (C4i); a centralized system for complaint via hotline/email and promoting recycling,” he said.

He also advised the people not to throw rubbish in the river to avoid flash flood whereby the council had found a refrigerator thrown into a river on November 9, while cleaning up the river area.

 

FULL BOARD MEETING

 

In another matter, MBI is now in the midst of improving the quality of the internet speed level via developing a fiber optic project which will increase high speed broadband to 800 megabit to 1 gig (1000 megabit) compared to the current 100 megabit, in Ipoh.

“As of 2020, there are 17 areas accessible to high speed broadband and another 26 areas are in the process of obtaining it. In 2021, some 12 areas are identified for it including Buntong, and it is expected that Ipoh City will be fully equip with infra fiber optic or UNIFI, by June 2021,” he said.
