FIRST LADY COUNCIL'S SECRETARY FOR MBI


IPOH - JULY 1: Ipoh City Council's (MBI) Infrastructure & Planning director Zuraina Kamarul Ariff was the first lady appointed as council's secretary, in a ceremony held at MBI, here.

Zuraina's appointment to run one of the highest public office reflects the appreciation for women by MBI as well as the Perak state government.

A cancer survivor Zuraina, 59, has 30 years of experience pertaining to the management work in MBI, since November 15, 1990.

She began her career with the council as an engineer (J3) followed with the post of a Director of City Engineer (J48) in 2011 and Senior Director (Infrastructure Operation) (J52), in 2018.

She is a holder of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Middlesex University, London and Master of Science (Project Management) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said that with Zuraina's expertise and experience, she would be the right person to assist in improving the quality of services and the development of MBI.

During the ceremony, Zuraina told the press members the pain of going through cancer over the past eight years and how she has managed to overcome it, and came back to work with MBI.

She said that she was diagnosed with stage 2 oral cancer in April 2013, and seek treatment in Ipoh General Hospital and later in Singapore.

I took medical leave for two years six months for recuperation, and I am glad to have an encouraging team of staff and MBI gave me full support to continue my career, here,” said Zuraina adding that she finished treatment for cancer in 2018.

The event ended with the presentation of appointment letter by Datuk Rumaizi to Zuraina, and a presentation of certificate of appreciation titled “Exemplary Woman” from the Perak Pink Champion Society to Zuraina.
