MAQIS SEIZE FROZEN FISH

 

Lumut: The Department of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) foiled an attempt to smuggle Marble Sleeper and Mahseer fish without an import permit from Indonesia to Lumut Port, here.

MQIS Perak issued a statement stating that during the enforcement officers’ routine check on the storage boxes where they found one of the boxes weighing 90kg contain the frozen Marble Sleeper and Mahseer fish estimated worth RM10,000.

 


 

The box of fish was without MAQIS Import Permit was then confiscated for further investigation.

Under S11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine & Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which is punishable under S11 (3) of the same Act.

The act states that anyone found convicted of the offence of smuggling without permit, will be fined an amount not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding six years or both.
