SOP FOR LEGAL PROFESSION

As of the recent SOP announcement, legal services are not listed as ‘essential services’ during the first phase of Total Lockdown from Jun 1 until 14, 2021.

However, it was decided by the National Security Council (MKN) special meeting on May 31, that there are three sectors allowed if it requires physical attendance in court such as New Prosecution, Remand Orders and various Criminal Applications.

As such, the government allowed exemption for the above three sectors where lawyers can attend court on behalf of their clients where they need to apply for a permit to attend court from the police station.

The government also allowed lawyer firms specializes in corporate and conveyancing work to apply for permit to operate if they are representing companies/factories/businesses via the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (Miti) through the covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0 portal.

The statement was released for the media from the office of Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, PM’s Department (Parliament and Laws).
