IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) organizes a Forum/Webinar section in conjunction with International Cave & Karst Day 2021 today.
Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ MD Daud launched the forum/webinar themed “Ipoh Treasure: Exploration, Understanding and Protection” in the present of panelists.
Rumaizi said the uniqueness of the limestone hills in Kinta Valley serves as an identity of Ipoh City, as well as a tourism icon to the state.
“Kinta Valley Geopark has a total of 18 geopark whereby the geoparks are not located at quarry areas, and it will not be affected by quarry activities.
“We have decided to insert Masoorat Cave as the latest 19th geopark into the Kinta Valley list of geopark, and we plan to develop the cave for geo economy and eco-tourism purposes.
He added that the council would be preparing a Special Area Plans (RKK) report on the limestone hills which would include assurance of life span value, destruction and the need for sustainability; study into the outcome of the surrounding developing sites, potential of the area for eco-tourism, research and development, and to analyse capability impact on the natural surrounding.
“The Kinta Valley is becoming complex not because of community demography and the attractive natural landscape, but also the many religious activities (religious house) found in the caves which will enhance heritage tourism.
“The Kinta Valley is now facing challenges of vandalism and we are now calling upon the state government, central government agencies, non-govermental organisations and public to cooperate in order to save the limestone hills from further destruction.
