IPOH: The habit of illegal dumping of domestic rubbish by the residents continues despite a centralized rubbish collection area has been set up at Kampung Rapat Jaya Tambahan.
There are all types of rubbish found thrown around in this area and this inevitably caused a massive rubbish dump site, here.
The rubbish dump started when the centralized rubbish collection area was opened on May 7, 2021.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) had received complaints of the rubbish dump mainly from councilor but not the residents themselves.
The collection of rubbish from the centralized rubbish collection area is fixed on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
On the other hand, any illegal dump site would be cleared off only once a month by four workers using an open lorry, which started operating on June 23.
Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said that to stop the illegal dump site, the council anti-litter enforcement team would go around and fine anyone found throwing rubbish loosely on open space.
“Under the Provision 12 Collection and Disposition of Rubbish (MPI) By-Law 1986 states that a person found guilty of littering will be fine a maximum of RM2,000 for the act.
“As of last May, the council had issued 82 compounds for littering and has collected RM67,550 from the fine.
“The residents are reminded to throw the rubbish in the respective rubbish din and be more responsible towards the surrounding areas,” he said.
