MINIATURE PULAU KETAM

It is the first and last time I ever visited Pulau Ketam (Crab Island) with a friend Karina, back in 1999.

The most memorable subject that I remember was the sight of the “floating houses” - miniature, traditional and colorful.

One can easily peep into the house and observed the livelihood of the fishing residents, here.

PULAU KETAM

The “floating houses” perched on wooden stilts 1 to 10 m above sea level. The main thoroughfares are the narrow concreted pavements, while in the residential areas, the older rickety wooden plank bridges can still be seen. There are no cars on the island, except bicycles and motorbikes as main means of transportation within the villages.

Other than the floating houses, visitors can take a walk around the island and enjoy the breeze slapping onto your face. One can also notice small shops selling packed seafood items, dried cuttle fish and souvenirs.

Pulau Ketam (Crab Island) is an island located off the coast of Port Kelang, Selangor, Malaysia.

The island is the intertidal zone and the chief vegetation is mangrove.

The main economic activity on the island is fishing and also a tourist destination.

Pulau Ketam is featured as the filming location for the movie entitled “Paint My Love” (2015)
