FIRST FLEA MARKET AFTER MCO



IPOH – 19 JULY:  The re-opening of the Memory Lane’s Flea Market saw some 1,000 visitors thronged the market.

They just cannot wait to source for their items after the closure of the market during the Movement Control Order (MCO), in March.

Ipoh City Council (MBI) Service & Operation Senior Director Haji Musa Dun followed with MBI Licensing & Enforcement Director, MBI Health Director and representatives from MBI Enforcement Unit, MBI hawker Unit, Police Force (PDRM) and Perak Immigration Department – were present for a visit to make sure traders and visitors adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) in the market.

Earlier on, Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud had made an announcement on the reopening of the Memory Lane on July 17.



ENGROSSED WITH THE BEAUTY OF THE OLD ITEMS


The market was located along Jalan Horley – Jalan Foo Yet Kai – Lorong Taipu - Ladies lane showcased 60 stalls (odd numbers) setting up their stalls this morning as early as 6.30am. The remainder stalls carrying even numbers will start business next weekend.

All stalls traders practiced the SOP of social distancing of three-meter while traders need to wear face masks and gloves, here.

Visitors also need to maintain a one-meter social distancing with one another. As per normal, visitors are allowed to enter using one-entrance for a duration of 30 minutes spent in the market, and temperature taking before entrance, registration of names or scanning QR CODE.

In addition, the council also prepares hand sanitizer and dustbin for the convenience of visitors. 



SECOND HAND ITEMS SOLD AT FLEA MARKET


High risk category community are not allowed entrance mainly senior citizen (above 60 years old), children (below 13), pregnant women and those who are sick. Those who are PUS (Patient Under Surveillance) and PUI (Patient Under Investigation) or quarantine cases are not allowed entrance into the market.

Before MCO, there are 300 stalls selling various items including antique merchandise, records, collectible items, homemade food, toys, pictures and photographs, stamps, coins and communications products.

However, now traders are only allowed to sell collector items, secondhand goods, clothing, toys, accessories, electrical goods but not food items.

The Memory Lane Flea Market was popularly known as “Thieves Market” which got its unsavoury name because it was assumed that the goods sold were stolen and re-sold to the traders who sells it to genuine buyers. The flea market is a treasure trove for antique bargain hunters.

The flea market opens from 7am to 1pm (Sunday).
