“This campaign of planting more trees in the city is in line with the council’s ‘Planting 1 Million Trees Programme’ as well as Low Carbon City by 2030.
“As of January 1 until December 11, an estimated 1,000 trees were planted in Ipoh City, however the number has declined due to the pandemic situation of Covid-19.
“In the past, some 1,500 trees had been planted in the city every year and we hope to plant the same number next year.
“The trees selected are from species that absorb high carbon while release high oxygen level. They are Samanea Saman (Hujan Hujan), Lagerstroemia Speciosa (Bungor), Cinnamomum Verum (Ceylon) and Pterocarpus Indicus (Angsana),” he said.
