IPOH: The Chicken Market (Pasar Ayam) is the first market in the country to use artificial intelligent robot to carry out work in the market premises.
In the pilot project, the robot will carry out task such as cleaning the floor, collecting and throwing rubbish and transporting items into the market.
CLEANING ROBOT |
The initiative taken is the joint effort by Ipoh City Council (MBI), Ministry of Housing & Local Government (KPKT), Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC).
TRANSPORTATION ROBOT |
MBI’s assistant head director Engineering (Works & Building) department Arif Mohd Zainudin said there are four types of robot available for simulating route purposes currently held at the market, namely the cleaning floor robot, transportation robot, rubbish disposal robot and a vehicle for throwing rubbish.

“The objectives of using the robot is to reduce employing of foreign workers where some of the task can now be done by the robot.
“One robot is able to do a job of five workers which may require two hours in a cleaning job, and the robot will clean the premises twice per day.
RUBBISH DISPOSAL ROBOT |
“As for the transportation robot, the market trader will unload their goods into a trolley whereby the robot will send it to the respective location.
“The robot will start work on this coming December 15, at the chicken market,” he said.
