FIRST LADY SOLO CANOEING


IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is all set to achieve the “First Lady Solo Canoeing” title for Malaysia Book of Records where two ladies are selected from Ipoh to break a new record, in conjunction with the celebration of Merdeka Month.

Nur Adilla Abu Hassan will take the lead in the canoeing expedition, covering 350km, from Tasik Banding to Beting Beras Basah, Bagan Datuk, on September 22.

She will have to face challenges such as crossing 18 bridges, four dams, three lakes within seven days.

Adilla, 38, works as an assistant administrator with the State Land & Mineral Director’s Office, is excited and looking forward for the once in a life time opportunity to grab the first lady solo canoeing title.

Her canoeing mate, Saidatul Atiquah Md Isa, 31, who is an employee of MBI and currently attached with the council’s Health & Services Department, will start her canoeing expedition covering 200km around Danau Toba, Sumatra, Indonesia, next year.

According to trainer Murad Mohd Kassim, the duo is active in climbing mountains and canoeing, yet they still have to undergo vigorous training and acquiring skill to prepare them for the canoeing.

 “Currently, they are at the last lap of their training session which begun last year, where they did their training around Pangkor Island.

“During the training, the ladies learn about the morphology of the sea such as high tide, boat and ship direction, wave direction, sea survival and emergency tactics during night time.

In another matter, MBI will embark in the “Morning Ipoh” Radio TV Ipoh City programme - a talk show via on line such as Facebook and Youtube MBI.

The medium of communication for the programme is English, which runs for one hour every Thursday from 9am to 10am. 

The programme is moderated by K.T. Pillai talks on issues like eco-tourism, agro-tourism, medical tourism, education tourism and sports.
