MAXWELL
HILL
Even
though Maxwell Hill is only about one-hour drive from Ipoh, I can
only count the number of times I have visited the hill.
Maximum
three times in a period of 30 years. Once I went with my friends,
another with my family and the last was to cover an assignment for
NST's Zom Travel Pullout.
Larut
Hill which was formerly known as Maxwell Hills is the oldest hill
resort in Malaysia. It is located 10km from Taiping, Perak.
The
hill is approximately 1,250m above sea level.
ENGLISH BUNGALOW AND GARDENS |
Bukit
Larut receives the highest rainfall in Malaysia because it is located
in the wettest part of the country.
It
was established in 1884 by William George Maxwell – who was the
British Assistant Resident in Perak.
Not
as developed as Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands, Bukit Larut
retains a colonial atmosphere with its quaint bungalows and English
Gardens.
Access
is available only by government owned land rovers, although some
visitors prefer to walk up the hill for a fee.
The
journey of 13 km from the base to the top of the Hill, using land
rovers take around 30 minutes.
POSING WITH THE LAND ROVER WE GONNA GO WITH TO MAXWELL |
The
hill is ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers, as the area
provides a welcoming environment for the local wildlife.
Tone
can take a panoramic views of Taiping town – at the top of the hill
Attractions
here, include Bukit Larut Rest House, Suspension Bridge & Watch
Tower (2012), Playground Holes grounded by wild boars (2012), Tulip
Garden (2010), Highest View from Playground (2012) and Biology
Diversity Centre (2011).
It
is recommended a one day trip to Bukit Larut is sufficient to cover
the attractions stated above.
