MBI TRANSFORMING TOURISM SPOTS IN IPOH


The Ipoh City Council (MBI) conducted it's Full Board Meeting June/2020 which saw discussions made on the transformation of several tourism projects which will take place in the city, here.

Also present to lead the meeting was Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.

Datuk Rumaizi said the council would be introducing a new tourism package covering Ipoh City Triangle Spot, from Gunung Lang, Ipoh Padang, Old Town to D.R. Seenivasagam Park.

Firstly, Gunung Lang – a number of activities will be implemented in Gunung Lang area which include a Bamboo Garden (Taman Buluh), Extreme Sports (Flying Fox, Wall Climbing, Wall Climbing, Jungle Trekking, Remote control Boat) and sporting events.

In addition, there will be a Petting Zoo and a Cave Exploration of Gunung Mat Soorat carrying fairy tale stories of the Three Bed Cave (Gua Tiga Bilik), Princess Hang Li Po (Puteri Hang Li Po), Floating Crocodile Stone (Batu Buaya Timbul) and Monkey Stone Structure (Batu Bentuk Monyet).

Next, is the D.R. Seenivasagam Park - there will be a development of a Floating Ampitheatre , Replica of insects section named “Insectopia”, Kinta River Walk and Food Court,” he said adding that this project will be carried out by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) costing RM3 million.

He said that the council had ideas of launching a Light and Sound project at the Ipoh Padang.

This project will also be developed by NCIA followed with attractive lightings including water features, utilising about RM3 million.

Meanwhile, a face lift will be given to Old Town areas, in enhancing the Mural Art in Concubine Lane which has been a popular place for photography session.

Old Town also showcased several hipster cafe popular among the younger generation.

MBI is now working closely with PlanMalaysia to start-off a “Food Trail” tourism package in Ipoh City, while re-introducing its “Ipoh Heritage Trail” to tourists, here.

The Ipoh Heritage Trail is a 'hit' among tourists here, which covers 27 places namely – Railway Station, Cenotaph, Town Hall and Old Post Office, High Court, Perak Library, Royal Ipoh Club, Ipoh Padang, St. Michael's Institution, Masjid India, former FMS Restaurant, Hongkong & Shanghai Bank, Residence & Law Office of Seenivasagam Brothers, Perak Hydro Building, Municipal Car Park, Mercantile Bank, Straits Building (OCBC), The Chartered Bank, Chung Thye Phin Building, SPH De Silva Building, Kin Know Daily News, Perak Ku Kong Chow Association, Han Chin Pet Soo, Panglima Lane, Mikasa Photo Shop, Jan Sahib's Office and Birch Memorial.

The old Post Office will be converted to an Art Gallery, which will be undertaken by NCIA at a cost of RM10 million,” said Rumaizi.




DATCHET


Datchet, is a village and civil parish in the Royal Borough of Windsor and maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is located on the north bank of the River Thames.

The name “Datchet” is thought to be Celtic in origin, and the last part may be related to wood.

The village developed because of its closeness to Windsor and the ferry service which connected it to the main London road across the River Thames. The ferry was later replaced by a road bridge at the foot of High Street and a rail bridge.

Datchet is popular with sailing and it has one of the largest inland sailing clubs called Datchet Water Sailing Club at the Queen Mother Reservoir.

The eight were the additional councillor prior to an earlier 17 members who were sworn in, on May 4.

TRAVEL BLOGGER DONATES TO PWW


The travelcolour.blogspot.my has donated 40 yarn dolls to the Perak Women for Women Shop (PWW).

The blog's editor Diana Yeoh, has handmade the dolls to support PWW in carrying out its work to empower women and help the less fortunate in the community.

It took her three days to complete the yarn doll for PWW. This was the second charitable project undertook by the blogger after the first one was 20 handmade dragon fly donated to Semangat Maju Home, a few years ago.

MBI LUCKY DRAW ON LIVE FB



IPOH – JUNE 19: Ipoh City Council (MBI) was the first council in the state to organise a “Lucky Draw Session for Assessment 2020” via Live FB, here.

The lucky draw session was drawn by Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud and three MBI officers, comprises of 300 slips (consolation prizes) and 30 slips (main prizes).

The lucky draw event has been running for a few years, and the council has allocated RM103,000 to purchase attractive prizes namely a Proton Saga 1.3MT, motorcycle, electrical and home decorative items for their winners.

Rumaizi said that the lucky draw aimed to thank our clients for been responsible to pay their assessment in time.

For this year, there is an increase of 14.5% that is 18,472 bill out of 148.174 bill paid to the council, compared to 129,702 bill paid last year.

The total of increased for this year is 23.7%, equivalent to RM39.45 million collected compared to RM31.9million, last year,” he said.

EXTENDED OPERATING HOURS FOR NIGHT MARKETS


IPOH - JUNE 16: The state government and the Ipoh City Council (MBI) jointly organised a “Walk about Gerbang Malam” to ensure the market traders complied with the standard operating procedures (SOP) held at the Gerbang Malam (Night Market), here.

Those presence were – Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi and Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.

Ahmad Faizal said apart from SOP compliance, we hoped MBI, market traders and the city folks will continue to assist the government in reducing the spreading of Covid-19 disease in the city, by wearing face masks and keeping social distancing while shopping, here.

The SOP comprises of one entrance (in-out), three-meter social distancing between the stalls, traders required to wear face masks and disposable gloves and the presence of RELA to assist in the safety of the people.

On the other hand, the visitors must adhere to temperature checking, wearing of face masks, using sanitizer and one-meter social distancing while shopping,”, he said.

Faizal added that after discussion with Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, the government had decided to prolong the operating hours of the pasar malam (other night markets) from the initial 4pm – 7pm, to 4pm – 10pm while the Gerbang Malam will operate from 5pm to 12 midnight, throughout the Recovery Movement Control (RMCO) period with effect from June 17.

Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the Gerbang Malam was incorporated in 2002, located between Jalan Sultan Idris Shah - Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah – Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar, in the city center.

The market has become popular among the locals and tourists especially during weekends and school holidays, and it is dubbed as a “tourism hot spot”, in Ipoh.

It's normal operating hours are 6pm – 12 midnight. The city council has allocated 164 boxes divided into four zones – A, B, C, D to cater for 128 traders, here.

There are a total of 128 traders selling goods namely – essential items (67 traders), reflexology services (5), traditional medicine (2), recycled items (1), books/shoes (1), clothing (42), second hand shoes (2), cosmetic (1), female decorative items (6) and spectacles (1),” said Rumaizi.

On another matter, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin had earlier visited a night market at Taman Klebang Restu to make sure the market traders here complied with the SOP, here.

LOST WORLD OF TAMBUN'S ZOOTASTIC TIME ESCAPE


IPOH: The Lost World of Tambun (LWOT) has re-open its zoo to some 500 visitors, during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period, today (June 13).

It's zoo consists of eight wildlife themed parks namely Petting Zoo, Giraffe & Friends, Tiger Valley, Hippo Kingdom, Catopia, Tarantula Alley and Wetlands & Bird Paradise.

There are 123 species whereby 364 animals are registered with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN).

Visitors can get-close and interact with the giraffe, camel and zebra, meet the Tiger or take photographs with parrots, rabbit and raccoon, here.

The animal shows are slotted at 2.30 pm, at the Tiger Valley.

LWOT general manager Nurul Nuzairi Mohd Azahari said cleanliness and safety was the management top priority where guests would have their temperature checked before entering and they were required to wear face masks.

There are also basin/soap and 50 sanitiser spot, for the convenience of our visitors,” he said.

Nurul said the management were happy to welcome their first batch of visitors today and most of them took precaution themselves by social distancing while detouring the zoo areas.

The more popular places are Giraffe & Friends and Hippo Kingdom while the less popular is the snakes.

After three months of absence from human beings, the animals are a bit nervous but active as today is the first time they are interacting with humans during RMCO period.

We are targeting 1,000 guests on weekends and hopefully the number of visitors will increase to 4,000 per day in July,” he said.

He added that the maximum capacity for the zoo would be 8,000 visitors per day during RMCO period (25% from our maximum capacity of 38,000 visitors on normal festive seasons).

Admission prices to the eight wildlife parks are – RM32 (MyKad/child) and RM39 (MyKad/adult)/ RM59 (adult) and RM49 (child).

PERAK TOURISM ON THE GO!


IPOH: The Perak State Government is ready to welcome tourists during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

They are all ready to start up the tourism industry with the implementation of several new campaign such as “Travel in Perak First” and “Perak Support Perak” to attract local tourists, into the state.

This being the first tourism programme cum workshop themed “Garis Panduan Amalan Terbaik (Pelancongan Negeri Perak PASCA Covid-19” carried out during the RMCO period, was jointly launched by the state government, Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Tourism Perak, Perak Tourist Association and the Lost World of Tambun (LWOT), here.

The workshop was attended by tourism players from other districts in the state – Lumut, Taiping, Ipoh, Royal Belum and Kuala Kangsar among others.

Datuk Norlee said firstly, the tourism industry players must adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP) of the new normal by setting a booth at the entrance for temperature check, providing sanitizer and download apps/jotting names, before entering the premises.

The state is fully committed to improve its tourism economy and to restore back the confidence of tourists coming, here.

We will be conducting a training scheme on work transformation, encouraging industry players to sign up their staff for re-training, up-skilling and replacement, in addition of an allowance to enable the workers to return back into the hospitality line.

We are also looking into improving the infrastructure of tourist destination by enhancing the safety, environment and utility of the places which may take six months to restructure it.

Besides, we are promoting our tourism social media platform in order to attract domestic and hopefully international tourists to the state, in future”, she said.

Norlee added that the state would be launching travel vouchers for tourists registered with Tourism Perak, and a further discount of RM50 for accommodation in Perak.

Currently, there are 1,030 guests who have booked rooms from 40 hotels in the state, during the RMCO period.

Azmi Osman said the objective of the BOMBA was to provide advice to the tourism industry on the SOP, and to do a check on the cleanliness of hotels, here.

Meanwhile, Nurul Nuzairi who is also representing Malaysia Association of Hotels, Perak Chapter told the press members that the theme park's Petting Zoo and the Tiger Valley will be open on this coming Saturday (June 13).

He also thanked the BOMBA staff who were present to guide them with the SOP, before the theme park opens its door to the tourists.

ABANDONED LAND



IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is giving stern warning to land owners who have neglected or abandoned their land, in the City.

Land owners are required to immediately clean up their abandoned land before compound notices will be sent to them as the last resort.

The abandoned land had created a ground for Aedes mosquito to breed.

It is estimated some 40,000 lot of land in Ipoh City which are neglected purposely by private land owners, here.

On another matter, the council is calling on the people to be responsible when throwing out rubbish for collection.

Do throw the rubbish in a proper rubbish din or plastic bag to ease the task of the worker when collecting rubbish, daily.

In the meantime, MBI had cleared up rubbish found in illegal dump sites around Polo Ground, Taman Indah Rokam, Taman Malar, Taman Ipoh, Silibin, Buntong, Taman Mas, Taman Cahaya, Taman Ria and Simpang Pulai.
