PENANG FOODIES

Penang Island is one place that offered the most unusual food list in the country (Malaysia).

As a foodie writer, I really yearn for Penang dishes be it chunky, rubbish, hawker, restaurant or seafood.

I have a wild time exploring for food – I am more on to the 'food trail' rather than shopping, while in Penang.

TRADITIONAL DIM SUM AT SG BAKAP

All the dishes offered here, fits well in my food itinerary – spicy and tasty! Most of the dishes carries an influence of Malay and Thailand style dishes. 

IKAN BAKAR

To start off my food trail, it runs from Sg Bakap - Nibong Tebal – Penang.  

A VARIETY OF COLORFUL DIM SUM DISHES

In order to get a feel of traditional dim sum, I will never missed Soon Lee Restaurant in Sg Bakap, which is on the way to Penang.

SHUI YUAN SEAFOOD RESTAURANT, NIBONG TEBAL

Apart from breakfast, one can also have lunch or dinner at Shui Yuan Seafood Restaurant, in Nibong Tebal.

FRIED FISH BEAN CURD

The breakfast and lunch food can be eaten interchangeable and there is no fixed dishes for the two unless you are going for rice then you need to select a restaurant.

MIXED LOBAK, PRAWN CRACKERS, TOWFOO

The popular ones for casual food are – dim sum, fried kuay teow, char kueh, lobak mix, mee suah duck or chicken, prawn mee, kuay teow soup, laksa, chicken oyster porridge, fried mamak mee, fried oyster, satay, roasted fish (ikan bakar), curry mee, apong manis and yam.

CHAY KUAR TEOW, YAM, CURRY MEE

Seafood lovers, can go for roasted crab, cockles, cuttlefish – available at Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe, Tanjung Tokong.

There is plentiful of choice for dinner dishes such as – curry fish or clam, sweet & sour crab, assam prawns, fried mixed vegetables or kangkong, belachan chicken, fried fish with bean curd and bak kut soup.

GOLDEN CITY RESTAURANT, AYER HITAM

The recommended eateries are – Lorong Selamat, Shing Kheang Aun Restaurant, Town Hotel, 747 Hainanese Restaurant, Kek Seng Cafe, Mt Eskrine Hawker Centre, Golden City Restaurant, New Cathay Coffee Shop, Song River Cafe and the former Seri Pantai Hawker Center.

FACTORY OUTLET, BATU KAWAN

Last but no least, tourists are encouraged to drop by a newly open branded outlet called the Design Village Outlet Mall held at Batu Kawan. Next to the mall, one can also visit the IKEA Mall, to view the latest cash and carry furniture.
